Garland Duncan

Garland Duncan, 82, of 1102 E. Myrtle Avenue, Johnson City, died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at his residence. He was a native of Sioux, North Carolina, son of the late Molt and Augusta Garland Duncan. Garland was a self-employed carpenter and loved to work with wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Edwin Duncan and four sisters, Adeline Bryant, Betty Duncan, Alma Atkins and an infant sister, Blanche. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church and a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include: his wife Rebecca 'Becky'? Lane Duncan of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger A. and Terri Duncan of Jonesborough; a daughter, Debbie A. Archer of Johnson City; a step son and his wife, Rodney and Melissa Trivett of Gray; three step daughters and a step son-in-law, Angela B. Miller of Elizabethton, Joanne E. and Crawford Rogers of Gray and Tracie L. Harrison of Jonesborough; two sisters, Lois Hampton of Johnson City and Madge Campbell of Erwin; four grandchildren, nine step grandchildren and two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. in the south chapel of the Morris '' Baker Funeral Home, under the direction of Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at eight. A committal service will be conducted on Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Monte Vista Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be: Preacher Curtis, Carl Sneyd and Steve Head. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to: the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Caris Hospice, 514 Justis Road, Greeneville, TN 37745.
