Mrs. Ada Cross Umbarger, 87, of Johnson City, passed away Monday, January 22 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was a resident of Johnson City but was born and lived her childhood years in Piney Flats. She was the daughter of the late Earl and Elizabeth ?Lizzie' Cross and stepmother Mae Cross. Ada attended Rocky Springs School in Piney Flats. She worked at the Johnson City Hosiery Mill, Stewart Warner, ITT North Electric and others. Ada?s favorite past time was bowling and horseshoes, where she won many trophies and awards. In her later years, as her health declined, she switched to bingo, which she also enjoyed. She was a member of North Johnson City Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and step mother, Ada was preceded in death by: sisters, Ethel, Irene, and Bonnie; brothers, Elmer, and Sullins and stepsister Rosalee; and one son, Michael Wayne Umbarger Survivors include: her husband of sixty-eight years, William Brown Umbarger; sons, David Steve Umbarger and his wife Rita, Mark Alan Umbarger and his wife Jamie, Joe Lynden Umbarger and his wife Denise; six grandchildren, Aaron, Aimee, Brandon, Daniel, Lexy, and Taylor; half sister, Nellie Mae (Jo) McDaniel; half brothers, Lester (Bud) Cross, Robert (Bobby) Cross, Frank (Pud) Cross, and Leonard Cross; and several nieces and nephews, whom she loved to visit. The family of Mrs. Ada Cross Umbarger will receive friends from 11 AM to 12 PM Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12 PM with Rev. Mike Anglin officiating. The graveside committal service will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
