Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary in well doing ; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Mrs. Agnes Senter went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the age of 92. Mrs. Senter was a native of Breaks, Virginia. She was a long time resident of Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Rufus and Josie Stiltner. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Gene Senter; one daughter, Jean Ann Senter Nave and four brothers. With the help of missionaries in Southwest Virginia, Agnes became a Christian at the age of 14. She went to Canton, Ohio at age 16 to attend high school. After graduation she returned to Virginia where she married Gene Senter. She and her husband moved to Johnson City. She joined Temple Baptist Church now University Parkway Baptist Church where she remained a member for seventy-two years. Her husband was shipped overseas during WWII and Agnes returned to Virginia where she was a school teacher in Dickenson County. Agnes was an active member at University Parkway. She began teaching the youth class and later taught a womens class (Fidelis Class) for sixty-nine years until she became ill. She taught missions on Wednesday nights, and the books of the Bible (Word by Word Study) for twelve years, Agnes was an active member of the Womens Missionary Union (WMU) where she orchestrated 'Christmas in August'. She also sang in the choir and held several positions on various church committees. She traveled to area churches where she taught books on missions. She visited nursing homes and shut ins regularly, as well as, helping with food preparation for grieving families. Agnes loved people and loved to talk, never failing to tell others about Christ and her love for him. She always greeted everyone at church with a smile and never met a stranger. She will be missed by everyone and there will be a great void in our hearts and lives without her. Survivors include: two daughters, Twila Click of Johnson City and Jewell Carr and her husband Walter of Johnson City; one sister, Dema Shoun and her husband Harry of Johnson City; two brothers, Jack Stiltner of Breaks, Virginia and Eugene Stiltner and his wife Emma Jean of Abingdon, Virginia; three grandchildren, Chris Click and his wife Kim, LeAnne Click and Aaron Carr and his wife Amie; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Click, Sara Click and Lynnlee Carr; several nieces and nephews, and two special nieces, Menessia Shoun and Calissta Sparks. The family wishes to say a special thank you to Sid and Carol Campbell and Gwen Eads for their love, help, and support. The funeral service for Mrs. Agnes Senter will be conducted at 8 PM Thursday, June 16, 2011 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Dr. Michael Oaks officiating. Music will be provided by Gil Moody and Kathy Thompson. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 1 PM Friday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Dean Shoun, David Shoun, Jared Shoun, Brandon Shoun, Josh Strother, and Rusty Sparks. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 PM Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday prior to the service.
