A.J. Monteith

A J Monteith, 84, passed away Tuesday July 29, 2014, at home, surrounded by his loving family. A J, the son of the late Fred and Mamie Monteith, was born in Bushnell, NC, and grew up in Brevard, NC. AJ joined the Air Force and traveled the world with his family for twenty-three years, retiring to Brevard, NC. He then retired from Ecusta Paper Mill, after twenty-three years working as an Electrician. He was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church, and very active in the Church '? a long-time Deacon, working as Sunday School Superintendent and singing in the choir. A J was a hard working, well-liked and well-respected member of his community. He would lend a hand to anyone in need and was always active, up to the time when his health prevented him from enjoying the many activities he enjoyed. He led by example, from his strong work ethic to his dedication to his family. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Belva Babb Monteith, daughter Linda Monteith Odom and husband Bobby Jack Odom Jr, son Timothy Monteith, daughter Sandra Wolfe and husband John Wolfe, and son John Monteith and wife Judy Monteith, and special chosen family Erika Odom and Danielle Odom. His sister Vivian Gillespie preceded him in death. Surviving siblings are Arnold Monteith, Joyce Whitmire, Charles Monteith and June Whitmire. Grandchildren include: Anna Monteith, Abby Monteith, Eliza Wolfe, Andrew Wolfe, Hannah Stephens, Katherine Chappell Blomgren, Brittany Chappell Kraft, and Greg Chappell. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 1PM Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Grace Baptist Church in Brevard, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Grace Baptist Church, 10 West Holden Road, Brevard, North Carolina 28712.
