Dr. Albert E. Miller, Jr., 92, of Jonesborough died May 17, 2020 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born July 5, 1927 in Elizabethton, TN to Albert and Kathryn Miller.
Due to his father’s military service, Dr. Miller graduated from Upper Darby High School, Philadelphia-where he excelled and earned the nickname “Rebel” on his football and track teams.
He was a U. S. Army veteran who served in Germany during the occupation.
Dr. Miller attended Milligan College and ETSU prior to graduating from the UT College of Dentistry, Memphis-from which his father also graduated in 1926. Following that, he attended the UNC Chapel Hill for his Masters of Orthodontics.
Dr. Miller practiced in Johnson City for over thirty-five years and was Johnson City’s first full-time orthodontist. He loved his work and felt honored by his patients’ trust.
In addition to his career in orthodontics, he operated the Ripshin Christmas Tree Farm and Happy Valley Tree Farm.
He loved music, skiing, travel, golf, and especially his cabin on Ripshin Mountain.
Dr. Miller was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, the Kiwanis club, the Hurstleigh Club, and was a Shriner.
Survivors include: his wife, Gay Bledsoe Miller, of the home; son, Mark C. Miller, Jonesborough; Paige Miller Warren, and her husband William, Nashville; and two grandsons, Sam Benedict, Chattanooga, and Cole Benedict, Athens, GA.
Graveside services for Dr. Albert E. Miller will be conducted 1:00 pm Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Bedford Transou officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jim MacLean, Charlie Smith, Dr. John Bradshaw, Dr. Lee Malone, Dr. John Hathaway, Donna Lyon, and W.T. Ray. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for those services.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, P.O. Box 1525, Ranson, WV 25438 or Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee, 1020 Jericho Drive, Kingsport, TN 37663.
