Alice Ellenburg Smith

January 23, 1926 — October 16, 2014

Alice Ellenburg Smith, 88, of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Alice was a native of Greene County. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lora Shelton Ellenburg. Alice worked for Bemberg Company for twenty-five years and later worked at Texas Instruments and retired from there. She was a member of the Unaka Piecemakers Quilt Club. She was a charter member of Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church and in her later years she attended Milligan Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren, quilting and gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, George H. Smith; five sisters, Reba Hensley, Mary Sue Ford, Beula Cloyd, Bonnie Ford, and Sabra Ellenburg; and two brothers, Guy and Ralph Ellenburg. Survivors include: three children, Diana Chesser, Stephen Smith and his wife, Emily, and Alicia Tipton and her husband, Tim; five grandchildren, Travis Chesser, Kevin Chesser, Trenna Smith, Marie Smith, and Rose Smith; three great grandchildren, Alex Chesser, Leanna Smith, and Makena Smith. The family of Alice Ellenburg Smith will receive friends from 5 pm until 7 pm Saturday, October 18, 2014 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The funeral service will follow in the South Chapel at 7 pm Saturday. Rev. Mike Richards and Rev. Craig Shelton will officiate. The committal service is scheduled for 2 pm Sunday, October 19, 2014 in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 1:30 pm Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.
