Alma Ruth Shipley

Alma Ruth Woods Shipley, age 94, died March 26, 2018 at Cornerstone Village. She was born June 28,1923 in Johnson City, TN to Harlie and Willie Collins Woods. She was a long time member of Harrison Christian Church where she was very active?teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and getting involved in various women groups. She had been employed at Appalachian Christian Village, Liberty Bell Cafeteria, and Community Relations Dept. at City Hall. She also volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center for many years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Una Shipley, Polly Broyles, and Lectra Shore; and one daughter, Judy Snyder. Survivors include: one daughter, Jane Birchfield; one son, Jimmy Shipley; son-in-law, Joe Snyder; Grandchildren, Joe Snyder (Jennifer), Carol Buck (Paul), Kelly Mooney, David Birchfield (Amy), Danny Birchfield (Sonya), Betsy Shipley; great grandchildren: Johnna Jones (Andrew), Lauren Eslinger (Jimmy), Brianna, Daniel, David and Brittney Birchfield, Seoc OBrien, Kara Hayes, Brandon and Abby Mooney, Judah and to be born in May, Alma Rankin Snyder; great-greatgrandchildren Jamen and Lila Eslinger; as well as several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Harrison Christian Church. The family of Alma R. Shipley will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A committal service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to gather at the graveside by 9:50 AM.
