Annie Tipton Penland

Annie Tipton Penland, 97, Johnson City, died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at NHC Healthcare. Mrs. Penland was a Mitchell County, NC native and had lived in the Tri-cities area since she was nine years old. She was a daughter of the late Manuel and Mollie Jane Laughren Jones. Mrs. Penland was preceded in death by her first husband, Nathaniel Tipton, her second husband, Eddie Penland, one son, Birl Tipton, four brothers and one sister. She was a Baptist. Survivors include three daughters, Kate Herlocker, Asheboro, NC, Sally Branum, Johnson City and Lynda Romanstine, Greenville, SC; three sons, John Tipton, Johnson City, Harvey Tipton, Traveres, FL and Carl Tipton, Johnson City; fourteen grandchildren twenty three great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. A funeral service for Mrs. Penland will be conducted at 8 PM Monday, December 3, 2007 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Reverend Harold McNabb and Reverend Tom Kock will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 AM and travel in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family expresses a special thank you to the staff and employees of NHC Healthcare for their kindness and care given.
