Barbara Boyd Lancaster

Barbara B. Lancaster, age 84, of 112 Barberry Road, Johnson City, Tennessee died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Gertrude Llewellyn Boyd and the late Augustus Pollack Boyd. She graduated from Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga in 1943 and from Gulf Park College in Gulfport, Mississippi in 1945. Mrs. Lancaster was born in Chattanooga and lived there until her marriage to W. Hanes Lancaster, Jr. in 1945. Together, they moved to Johnson City in June of 1948 and have resided here until the present time. From 1980 until 1998, Mrs. Lancaster was co-owner of Childrens Cottage. She also was a member of Junior Service League and was involved in securing funding for Watauga Behavioral Health Services. While a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, she served on the Altar Guild and for many years taught the confirmation class. But, her first love was always her husband and children and their home. Mrs. Lancaster was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Pollack Ann Williams. Mrs. Lancaster is survived by her husband, W. Hanes Lancaster, Jr.; a brother, Llewellyn Boyd and his wife Ann of Chattanooga; four daughters, Susan L. Rule and her husband Jim, Polly L. Torbett and her husband Tom, Ellyn Lancaster and Mary Hanes L. Lockett, all of Johnson City, 15 grandchildren, Bebe Reed and her husband Bo of Cartersville, Georgia, Staley Smith and her husband Wayne of Winder, Georgia, Betsy Williams of Knoxville, Tennessee, Courtney Williams of Johnson City, Tennessee, Tommy Torbett II and his wife Kelly of Johnson City, Hanes Torbett and his wife Stacie of Jonesborough, Lance Torbett and his wife Christie of Johnson City, Susan L.McBride and her husband Raymond of Johnson City, Lacy Torbett of Johnson City, Barrett Beeson of Park City, Utah, Lyn Bedsaul and her husband Kris of Asheville, North Carolina, Valda Beeson of Johnson City, Caroline Kaylor and her husband Blake of Knoxville, Tennessee, Mary Hanes Lockett of Johnson City, Logan Lockett of Columbia, South Carolina, Laynee Fleenor and her husband Jason of Johnson City and 24 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Barbara B. Lancaster will be at 1:30 PM Sunday February 15, 2009 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, TN. Dr. James Richter will officiate. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tommy Torbett, Hanes Torbett, Lance Torbett, Barrett Beeson, Freddie Lockett, IV, Bo Reed, Wayne Smith, Raymond McBride, Kris Bedsaul, Jason Fleenor and Blake Taylor. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker Funeral Home Saturday from 5 until 7 PM.
