Barbara Griffin Taylor, 86, Johnson City, died Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a Johnson City native and the daughter of the late Larrance Loftis Griffin and Sara Bradley Griffin and was married to the late Robert “Bob” Downing Taylor III.
Barbara attended high school at Science Hill in Johnson City and went on to graduate from Hollins College in Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in math and physics. After graduating, she and Bob were married in Johnson City in 1959. They spent the first few years in Ft. Ord, California. Barbara worked for Stanford Research Institute and analyzed data for army troops training in the field for equipment.
Barbara was passionate about fashion. She worked for the Carlisle Collection/Etcetera New York along with her mother, Sally, starting in 1981. Barbara was an in-home fashion & sales consultant and district manager for the state of Tennessee. On top of her fashion consulting, she tutored math (algebra and geometry) to high school students starting in 1970. She spent many long hours helping kids around the dining table in the kitchen while serving Coke and popcorn. She was also the president of the Junior Service League.
Barbara was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Johnson City, TN.
Survivors include: sons, Robert D. IV and Bradley Griffin and Meike Taylor; grandchildren, Griffin, Sophia, and Heidi Taylor; and one brother, Thomas L. Griffin.
The funeral service for Barbara Taylor will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The Rev. Laura Bryant will officiate.
Following the funeral service, the family will host a reception in the church’s great hall.
