Ben F. Huckaba

Ben F. Huckaba, 80, Johnson City, died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Huckaba was a native of Russellville, AL and had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Ernest Frank and Lillie Staggs Huckaba. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chanda Shipley, son-in-law, Jack Shipley, brothers, Jasper, Robert and Ernest Huckaba and sisters, Clare Guess and Judy Underwood. Mr. Huckaba was a former employee of J.E. Greene Construction Company and retired as a superintendent. He was a life member of the Johnson City Masonic Lodge #486 and the Tennessee Home Guard (later to become the Tennessee National Guard). Mr. Huckaba leaves his wife, Jewel Hill Huckaba; one son Kevin Huckaba and his wife, Donna, Johnson City; two daughters, Pam Shipley, Johnson City and Kim Estep and her husband, Rick, Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Lori and Terry Hamilton, Johnson City, Jonathan and Amy Huckaba, Elizabethton, Casey and Shawnta Shipley, Johnson City, Josh Estep, Johnson City and Brooke Estep, Johnson City; two great grandchildren, Trista and Bryson Shipley, Johnson City; one brother, Herbert Huckaba, Gallatin, TN; one sister, Helen Conger, Paris, TN and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Huckaba will be conducted at 7:30 pm Tuesday, February 10, 2009 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Pastor C.W. Snodgrass Jr. will officiate. Graveside services with Masonic Rites will be held at 11 am Wednesday, February 11, at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Johnson City Masonic Lodge #386 will officiate. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 am and travel in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Casey Shipley, Josh Estep, Jonathan Huckaba, Rick Estep, Jeremiah Tolley and Terry Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers will be Cletus Bowling, Lester Bowling, Freeman Reeves, C.W. Snodgrass and Andy Sullivan. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
