Bertie Riddle Blankenship

Mrs. Bertie Blankenship, 89, of 2332 Eastside Avenue, Johnson City died Friday, February 27, 2009 at her residence. She was a native of Embreeville, daughter of the late William N. and Elizabeth Jones Riddle. Bertie was a retired dietetic technician for the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Utah Blankenship in 1994; a daughter, Lillian Blankenship;one infant granddaughter, Patricia Ann; two brothers, Fred and Oscar Riddle; three sisters, Pearl Greer, Magaline Riddle and Pansy Riddle. Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Mary Blankenship of Johnson City; a sister, Bertha Mae Elkins of Burnsville, North Carolina; three grandchildren and theirs spouses, Wanda and Terry Lyons of Jacksonville, Florida, Randy and April Blankenship of Johnson City, Steve and Sara Blankenship of Knoxville; seven great grandchildren, Terry Lyons, Jr., Aaron Lyons and Conley Lyons all of Jacksonville, Florida, Randa Blankenship and Mackenzie Blankenship both of Johnson City, Cody and Jake Blankenship both of Knoxville; two great great grandchildren, Dakota and Savanna Lyons both of Jacksonville, Florida; one sister-in-law, Chris Riddle; several nieces and nephews.A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. in the South Chapel of the Morris '' Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. Tony Trott and Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at eight. A committal service will be conducted on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. The active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. All attending are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession by 10:45 a.m. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to: the First Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 302 Colorado Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.
