Bessie May Lowe Peters, 95, formerly of 1205 E. Market Street, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the Asbury Place following an illness. She was a native of Carter County, and the eldest of 12 children of the late George W. and Annie Blevins Lowe. Mrs. Peters was a retired homemaker and member of the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church since 1921. Eighty-four years of membership made her the oldest member of the church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Peters was preceded in death by five sons: John Peters Jr., Lloyd Peters, Terry Peters, Gary Peters and Roby Peters; two daughters: Evoynne Peters, Ethel Brummitt; three brothers: Dan, Lonza and Jim; two sisters: Ethel Sheets and Thelma Crocetta. Survivors include: three sons: Leon Peters, Gray, James Jerry Peters, Johnson City, and Larry Wayne Peters, of Tampa, Florida; four brothers: Roby, Selmar and Delmar Lowe, all of Johnson City, and Gene Lowe, of Montgomery, Alabama; two sisters: Georgia Lowe and Yvonee Arnett, both of Johnson City; 26 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, March 18, 2005, in the North Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. Eric Heaton. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at two. A committal service will held in the Mausoleum Chapel of the Monte Vista Memorial Park and entombment will follow.
