The family of Betty E. Barnett, 83, of Johnson City, would like to celebrate the life of a wonderful woman. She went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 1, 2017, at her home in Johnson City, TN, surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Kingsport, TN and lived her adult life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late John ?Vern' Hawk and Blanche Jenkins Hawk. Betty was a graduate of Sullivan High School in Kingsport, TN. She married the love of her life, Bill G. Barnett, in 1953. She was a loving stay at home mom until 1974, when she began work at State Health Laboratory, which transitioned to Regional Health Laboratory. She moved to Quillen College of Medicine at ETSU in the Department of Microbiology in the early 1980?s, where she later retired. She was an avid reader, an extraordinary cook and loved spending time with family and friends. Betty spent many years along with her husband, sharing her faith and wonderful alto voice in the Shining Light Quartet. She was a great lady of faith and would share the Love of Christ openly with everyone she met. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her, knew her by her warm smile, and her ability to welcome you as if you were family. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Bill; brothers, Bobby Hawk and Charles ?Buddy' Hawk; sisters, Pauline Moody, Gail Christian and June Hammond. Survivors include: her children, Steve Barnett and wife Naomi, Johnson City, TN, Sam Barnett, and wife Sharon, Erwin, TN, Sharon Smith, and husband Bobby, Elizabethton, TN, and Shannon Barnett, Johnson City, TN; grandchildren, Jennifer Barnett Schlichting and husband John, Joanna Barnett, Hannah Smith Hazelwood and husband Michael, Jonathan Barnett, Josh Smith, Skyler Barnett, Ben Smith; great grandchildren Kayla, Ashley, Courtney and Caleb Schlichting, and Clara Hazelwood; sisters, Charlotte Vicars and husband Otis, Kingsport TN and Katie Hall and husband Virgil, Kingsport, TN.
