Betty George Starnes

September 27, 1930 — August 25, 2015

Betty George Starnes, 84, of Johnson City passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015. Betty was born in Johnson City on September 27, 1930 to Zuie and Harvey George, both deceased. She had two siblings, Joe M. George and Doris George White, both deceased. She was married to Bill J. Starnes for 56 years. Bill passed away in July of 2009. Betty graduated from Science Hill High School and was a nurse with the Veterans Administration for many years. Survivors include her son, Keith W. Starnes (Katharine) of Birmingham, Alabama. She has two grand-daughters, Audrey and Olivia Starnes of Birmingham, Alabama. She has one cousin, Mary Ann Haney of Knoxville, as well as three nieces and two nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM EST on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Morris-Baker South Chapel in Johnson City, with a short funeral service to follow at 2pm EST. There will be a graveside service immediately following at Monte Vista Cemetery in Johnson City. Betty was a Christian, and she and her family has asked that anyone reading her obituary simply believe and trust that Jesus Christ died for their sins, was buried, and resurrected for their justification. She was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. 'I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live. Yet not I, but Christ liveth in me and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.'
