Betty Jean Powell, 81, of Johnson City, died Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and the daughter of the late Luther and Anna Ruth Ellis May. Mrs. Powell was a homemaker. She was an ardent member of Skyline Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Powell was a member of the Limestone chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter Kristi Ann Manning. Survivors include: her husband, James T. Powell, of the home; son, James V. 'Bouy'? Powell, and his wife Tina, of Gray; two daughters, Vickie Privette, and her husband Larry, and Sonia Powell Hicklin, all of Jonesborough; grandchildren, Matt Tittle, of Telford, Justin Adam Powell, of Johnson City, Danielle Dixon, and her husband Coit, of Jonesborough, Dylan Peterson, and his wife Ashley, of Kansas, Cody Powell, of Johnson City, and Brittany Powell, of Gray; great grandchildren, Whitney Manning Bowen, and her husband, Brian, of Erwin, Raven and Sophia Dixon, of Jonesborough, and Kyleigh Peterson, of Kansas; great-great grandchildren, Nyk Bowen and Liam Manning, both of Erwin; and special companions, Clay, Maggie, and Annie. The family of Betty J. Powell will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 PM in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Pastor Donald Page and Pastor Ken Gaskin will officiate. Pallbearers will be: Matt Tittle, Cody Powell, Coit Dixon, Cory Dillon, Brian Bowen, and Dylan Peterson. Honorary pallbearers will be: Sonny Johnson, Bobby Mills, Scott Buckingham, C. B. Kinch, and George Jaynes. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday at Washington County Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Friday to go in procession to the cemetery for those services.
