Betty Joyce Williams

Betty Standefer Williams, 101 Bradley Road, Johnson City, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a courageous battle with leukemia. Mrs. Williams was a naive of Chattanooga, TN and had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Turney and Gladys Hamrick Standefer and was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Walden and one brother, Raymond Standefer. Mrs. Williams a former employee of DuPont and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was an active member of Cherokee Church of Christ, devoted to her family and spent many years traveling with her husband playing softball. Mrs. Williams will be remembered for her beautiful smile and by never meeting a stranger. Mrs. Williams leaves her husband, of fifty seven years, Thomas H. Williams; three daughters, Donna Lorenzen, Charlotte, NC, Lynda Widener, Jonesborough and Rhonda Hawkins, North Augusta, SC; two devoted sons-in-law, Jim Lorenzen and Terry Widener; four grandchildren, Tommy Lorenzen, Sheree Waslaske, Teri Sue Miller and Chris Hawkins; great grandchildren, Adora, Zoe and Zack Hawkins, Whit and Sophie Miller and Jack Waslaske; two brothers, T.W. Standefer and Derrell Standefer, both of Chattanooga; many caring and supportive nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, 'King'? and grand dog'Buddy'?. A funeral service for Mrs. Williams will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday, July 16, 2008 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Interment will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens. Minister Ed Devault will officiate. Randy Lilley, Kemp Miller, Denise Ragan and Dris Stayer will provide music. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Standefer, Ray Standefer, Marvin Walden, Stanley Walden, Jeff Roth and Randy Leindecker. Honorary pallbearers are Roy Stallings, Bob Carlton, Richard Dugger, Larry Simerly and Matt Gerlach. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Cherokee Church of Christ, 1421 Cherokee Road, Johnson City, TN 37604 or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 404 BNA Drive, Suite 102, Nashville, TN 37217-2571.The family expresses a special thanks to Dr. Frank A. Forbush, the ICU Staff on 2700, and the 5200 Wing of the Johnson City Medical Center, their friends at Cracker Barrel and the church family at Cherokee Church of Christ.
