Betty Lou Beeler, age 85 of Elkton, MD, formerly of Johnson City, TN, died June 4, 2013 at Union Hospital. Miss Beeler was born in Bristol, TN in 1928 to the late Guy and Mary Beeler. She spent her early childhood in Knoxville and Morristown, TN. The family moved to Johnson City in 1938. She lived there until 1956. Betty was a graduate of Science Hill High School. After graduation she attended Milligan College in 1946-47. She worked for her father who owned Guys Café until 1950. In 1950 she attended the University of Tennessee to become a Driver Education teacher at Science Hill High School until 1952. In 1952 she enrolled at East Tennessee State College and earned a B.S. Degree in Business Education and also operated her own driving school until graduating in 1956. Miss Beeler was employed by the Cecil County Board of Education in 1956 as a Business Education teacher at North East High School. She taught there until 1963 when she transferred to Bohemia Manor High School until 1971. She finished her teaching career at Elkton High School. She retired after 31 years of teaching in June 1987. During her teaching career she also coached girls sports, was cheerleader sponsor, Junior Class sponsor, and taught adult education at Bainbridge and Elkton High School. Betty was a member of Elkton United Methodist Church, Elkton, MD. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter in Johnson City and Sigma Omega Sorority at ETSC. Miss Beeler is preceded in death by her three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Harlan, Mrs. Frances Carmichel and Mrs. Patsy Pickle, all of Johnson City, TN. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Nancy Jo Pickle, foster sister, Darlene Lee Jones, of Jonesboro, TN; and foster daughter, Patti A. Patterson of Elkton, MD; one niece, four nephews, two great nieces, and two great nephews. Friends may call at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921 on Sunday evening June 9, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Services will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 11:00 am at Elkton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Karen Bunnell will officiate. Interment will be at Monta Vista Cemetery in Johnson City, TN, arranged by the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Elkton United Methodist Church c/o the funeral home.
