Betty Lou Garland, 67, of 904 Bert Street, Johnson City died unexpected on Friday, September 4, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Garland was a native of Piney Flats, a former resident of Florida and had lived in Johnson City for the past thirty years. She was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Nell Ann Tester Carroll. Mrs. Garland was a former telemarketer but mostly enjoyed being a Preachers wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a member of the Keystone F.W.B. Church. Mrs. Garland is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jay Carroll and E.T. Carroll. Survivors include: her husband, Rev. Bill D. Garland of the home; her mother-in-law, Ruby I. Garland of Johnson City; three sons, Billy Garland, Jr. of Johnson City, Charles E. and wife Kimerly Garland of Oviedo, FL, and Don C. and wife Lori Garland of Orlando, FL; six grandchildren, Joshua Garland, Ashley Garland, Matthew Garland, Rachel Garland, Chaze Garland and Race McDougle; two great grandchildren, Alyssa Garland and Isabella Garland; five brothers, Bobby Carroll of Jonesborough, Carson Carroll of Johnson City, Bill Carroll of California, John Carroll of Rogersville, TN, and Lynn Carroll of South Carolina; three sisters, Beulah Haines of Johnson City, Kay Arnold of Johnson City, and Ruby Davis of Stone Mountain, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service for Betty Lou Garland will be conducted at 12 Noon Monday, September 7, 2009 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Delbert Storie and Rev. Bill Greer will officiate. Interment will follow in the Edgefield Cemetery in Piney Flats. Active pallbearers will be Joshua Garland, Matthew Garland, Don Garland, Charles Garland, Billy Garland, and Chaze Garland. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Dana Allen, Jeff Carroll and Steve Carroll. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 11 AM to 12 Noon Monday prior to the funeral service. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942
