Beulah D. Barker, 82, of Gray, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord from her home on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
She was born in Mitchell County, North Carolina, to the late Jerome and Pauline Buchanan. Beulah, or Little “Big” Nana, was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to many. Her smile was her trademark, and her personality lit up any room she entered. She enjoyed any time spent with her family, loved the Lord, and she got great enjoyment from being in church worshipping and hearing the Word of the God preached. She regularly attended services at the Boones Creek Free Will Baptist Church.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James “Jim”, a brother, John Wesley; a great-grandson, Preston; and son-in-law, Mike Gamble.
Left to cherish her life and memories are her daughters: Lisa Norman (husband Barrie) of Bristol, TN, Tina Rice (husband Keith) of Jonesborough, TN, Tammy Harvey (husband Bob) of Jonesborough, TN, and Kim Ponder (husband Curtis), of Ronda, NC; grandchildren, Mark, Michael, Kelly, Alysha, Amy, Kelsey, Dalton, Luke, and Hannah; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Janice Reid of Johnson City, TN; brother-in-law, Johnny Barker; sister-in-law, June Crowder; and several nieces and nephews.
Beulah’s family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Boones Creek Free Will Baptist Church (6010 Kingsport Hwy, Johnson City). The funeral will follow at 7:00 pm, under the direction of Pastor Matt Yokley, Pastor Curtis Ponder, and Pastor Ed McLain. The graveside service will commence at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 25, at Washington County Memory Gardens, under the direction of her grandson, Luke Ponder.
Active pallbearers include: Michael Gamble, Luke Ponder, Mark Rice, Dalton Ponder, Kelsey Harvey, Hunter Rice, and Colton Chase. Honorary pallbearers include: Beulah’s granddaughters.
