Beulah Dean Phillips

June 14, 1931 — May 9, 2016

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Psalm 116:15 Mrs. Beulah Dean Phillips, age 84, entered into her eternal rest Monday morning May 9, 2016 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was a daughter of the late James Franklin and Mary Tipton Freeman. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and lived most of her adult life in Johnson City. She married her lifelong love Lida Phillips on August 14, 1948. They enjoyed fifty-one years of faithful marriage until his passing in 2000. They were members of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church. They were always a team, earning a living, lovingly raising their four children, and making a home. She retired from Levi Strauss Company in 1991. She was an avid gardener and took great joy in sharing her beautiful flowers and garden vegetables with all. She was a wonderful homemaker. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family. She was a wonderful friend, good listener, and confidant. She was a gracious hostess to all who entered her home. Her memory is cherished by many. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Jeremy Christian Phillips; three brothers, Blaine, Edward, and Arthur Freeman; and three sisters, Welda Bennett, Roxie Clark, and Lelia Clawson. Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, Gary Phillips, Kathy Phillips-Shortt, Karen Lynn Phillips, Richard Phillips and daughter-in-law, Karen Phillips, all of Johnson City; one sister, Mrs. Betty Masters and brother-in-law, James Masters of Chuckey, Tennessee. She leaves five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family of Beulah Dean Phillips will receive friends from 1 pm to 2 pm Friday, May 13, 2016 in the Morris-Baker Dogwood Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2 pm Friday under the direction of Dr. W. Edward Fine. Special music will be provided by Mary Ann Walser. Following the service, family and friends will proceed to Monte Vista Memorial Park for a 3 pm committal service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
