William F. 'Bill'? Treadway, of Steeplechase Drive, Johnson City, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at his home from ALS '? Lou Gehrigs disease. Bill was a native of Elizabethton and was the son of Josephine Fair and the late Claude Treadway. He attended ETSU and Happy Valley High School - where he played basketball and baseball. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran '? having earned several metals and awards. He retired as office manager and purchasing agent for General Mills with over 30 years of service. He was a former member of the Johnson City Jaycees, the Board of Directors of the Johnson City Boys and Girls Club, and a former Elder of First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include: his wife of forty years, Joyce Treadway; chosen son, Roby Sykes, and his wife, Liza Hampton Sykes; chosen grandson, Bailey Sykes; brother, Jerry Treadway, and his wife Jane; sister, Teresa Maples, and her husband Franklin; special nephew, Wesley Whaley; and niece, Michelle Hathaway. Special thanks are extended to his wonderful caregiver, Reba Snyder, Mary Bowman, and Amanda White of the Center for Health and Aging, Erwin, who made each day as wonderful as possible. Special thanks to the wonderful friends who took time out of their lives to share time and love with Bill - he was able to enjoy the outside world through their visits. These special people include: Kem and Tom McKee, Lois and Fred Wetzel, Laurie Higgins, Becky Haynes, Drs. Debra and Guy Wilson, Dr. Jim and Brenda Wilson, Jim Onks, Al Fatherree, Eddie Greene, Cheryl Reardon, Dr. Dick Beaver, Lee and Donna Allen, Buddy and Brenda Blake, Dr. Jack Williams, Dr. Frank and Ellen Johnson, Abigail and Allen Camberon, John and Annalee Crysel, Ann Abrams, Bea Hudswell, Dave Cleveland, Cora and Diana Mosier, Gerald Malcom and the wonderful members of First Presbyterian Church, the staff, owners, and residents of Morning Pointe Assisted Living, and Pat Woodard - his friend and hair dresser for over 25 years who also introduced him to his love of painting. Words cannot express the familys thanks and appreciation to the V.A. Home Based Primary Care. It was because of their wonderful care that Bill was able to remain at home. While able, he also received wonderful care from the V.A. Medical Center. His care was great. What a wonderful staff the V.A. Center is blessed with. Thanks to Dr. Kenneth Hill and Sharon Bellis, R.N. from Smokey Mountain Hospice for the time love and care. Bethel Rd., Greeneville, TN 37745; or you may plant a tree in Bills honor and watch it grow. It was Bills wish to be cremated with no formal funeral or visitation conducted. Instead of spending time attending a funeral, he wished that you take time with those whom you love to express how very important they are to you. It has been a great life. Thanks for all the wonderful people with whom he has been able to spend time and enjoy the goodness of their lives. A private burial will be conducted at the VA cemetery and a party to celebrate his life with his friends will be held at a later date.
