Mr. Billy 'Bill'? Jim Kennedy slipped from the loving arms of his family into the loving arms of Jesus on Sept. 12, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. Mr. Kennedy was born in Sewanee, Tennessee. He is one of the twins of the late William Morgan and Katherine Collins Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy was a Korean War veteran having spent fourteen months on the Korean battlefield. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for the Red Cross at Eglin Air Force Base. His working life was spent guiding young people. He retired from East Tennessee State University where he helped develop the Criminal Justice Program. He had been a high school guidance counselor and Director of Juvenile Probation for the state of Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patsy Whitson Kennedy, one daughter Carrie Lynn Templeton and husband John, one granddaughter, Katelyn, his twin sister Bettye Kennedy Staples, nephew James Ed Collins, bother-in-law James Whitson, sister-in-law Jean Lyle and husband Fred, brother-in-law Don Whitson, sister-in-law Diane Whitson, Shelby Ingram, several nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of the 6th floor trauma unit at JCMCH, especially Dr. Shane, nurses, Pam, Janet, and Cara, for their loving care of 'Mr. Billy' and his family. A celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City on Tuesday, Sept. 16th, 2014. Family will receive friends from 2 -2:30 in the Welcome Center of the church. The family requests that anyone wishing to remember Mr. Kennedy make donations to the First Presbyterian Church Hymnal Fund.
