Bonnie Garland Lowery, 92, formerly of 130 Katanah Ln, went home to be with the Lord on Monday evening, October 29, 2007 at the NHC Healthcare Center after a long battle with Alzheimers. A daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Tipton) Garland, Mrs. Lowery was a Bakersville, NC native. She had lived in the Johnson City area since 1930 and had been an active member at Berea Free Will Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was an active participant in the church services held at NHC Healthcare after she became a patient there. She was a former manager of Leeland Trailer Park and had retired from East Tennessee State University after twenty-five years of service. Mrs. Lowery loved the Lord with all her heart and this was evident in everything she did throughout her life. Also known for her beautiful, bountiful flower gardens and her love of gardening, she never met a child she didnt fall in love with. She loved being 'Granny'? to everyone. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lowery was preceded in death by her loving husband of twenty-nine years, Hubert Harrison Lowery in 1960; a daughter, Billie Jean Lowery, a great grandson, Philip Ray Lowery and nine brothers and sisters. Mrs. Lowery is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary E. Lowery, Jonesborough; four grandsons and their wives, Mike and Gail Lowery of Johnson City, Cheyenne and Patsy Lowery of Jonesborough, Keith and Cathy Lowery, Church Hill, and Chuck Lowery, Kingsport; ten great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; a sister, Lucy Vanhuss and a brother and sister-in-law Leonard and Bea Garland all of Johnson City. Numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive. A funeral service for Bonnie Garland Lowery will be held on Thursday November 1, 2007 at 3:00 PM from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Pastor Jerry Stout will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home the evening before the funeral, Wednesday, October 31, 2007 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A graveside committal service will be held at Union Church Cemetery .
