Boyd Jones, 104, of Appalachian Christian Village Health Care Center passed away Monday Oct. 17, 2011. He was born in Relief, NC April 16, 1907 to parents Vashti Tipton Jones and John Wesley Jones. Boyd lived in Johnson City 63 of his 104 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Panama in 1932 and 1933. He served his community from 1948-1972 as owner and operator of Jones Hardware on Buffalo Street. 'To make a pretty good go of everything'? is the quote he shared, inspiring his family and friends, instilling family and community virtues and values into their lives. Despite his age, Mr. Jones still remained pretty independent. He was a golf enthusiast and until his health wouldnt allow he enjoyed long walks and watching his garden He is preceded in death by his wife Carrie Jones; his son Dr. Charles B. Jones; two brothers, Charlie and Ward Jones; and two sisters Trula Harrell and Marie Gage. He is survived by his daughter Pat Jones of Marietta, GA; his daughter in law, Duffie Jones of Knoxville, TN; 7 grandsons Steve Jones, Dr. Richard Jones, Edward Jones, Boyd Jones, Andy Jones, Russ Jones, Ben Jones, 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Special appreciation and thanks is extended to Dr. Grant Taylor, his nurses and office staff and to the nursing staff at Appalachian Christian Village Health Care Center for overseeing Mr. Jones care for the last three years. The family will receive friends Friday October 21 6:00 '? 8:00pm at Morris Baker Funeral Home with the service to follow, Reverend Garland Thayer officiating. Burial will be Saturday morning 11:00 am at the Bakersville Cemetery, Bakersville, NC. All who wish to attend the committal service should meet at Morris Baker Funeral Home by 9:30am.
