Boyd Lewis, Sr., 95, formerly of Johnson City, died Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Symphony of St. Augustine, in St. Augustine, FL.
He was a Poplar, NC native who lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late William and Cora Webb Lewis.
Mr. Lewis was a U. S. Army veteran who served in the 36th Infantry Division during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, the French Legion of Honor, and five battle stars for his service.
During his working years, he worked in the construction of atomic plants.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by: his daughter, Judy Oliver; sisters, Pansy Oaks, Bertha Tilley, Tessie Hopson, and Geneva Honeycutt; brothers, Howard, Conway, Claude, and Hoy Lewis.
Survivors include: his wife of 72 years, Wanda M. Lewis; son, Boyd Lewis, Jr., and his wife Patsy, of Florida; son-in-law, Jim Oliver of Johnson City; granddaughter, Dr. Jada Lewis, and her husband Mike Chen, of Florida; great-grandson, Aidan Lewis Chen of Florida; sisters, Jo Ann Ledford of Jonesborough, and Cassie Bacon, and her husband Stanley, of Florida; and brother, James Lewis of Jonesborough.
The family of Boyd Lewis, Sr. will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm Tuesday in the funeral home’s Dogwood Chapel. Mr. Tim Hall, Minister, will officiate followed by speaker Allen Jackson. Music will be provided by Shirley Lane and Rachael Hendricks. Pallbearers will be Gary Lewis, Richard Lewis, Tim Lewis, Chris Lewis, Chad Edney, and Sam Haren. Following the funeral service, family and friends will gather at Washington County Memory Gardens for the committal service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Central Church of Christ, 2722 E Oakland Ave, Johnson City, TN 37601.
