Bruce Humphreys, 84, of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, October 6, at Signature Healthcare of Elizabethton. Bruce was a native of Carter County, a son of the late John Wallace and Cora Lee Keller Humphreys. He had moved to Johnson City after getting married, working construction for the city before retiring after 35 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, his flowers, and growing everything imaginable. He loved all of his grandkids, caring for them like a father. He was a member of Watauga Flats Church for many years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by: one sister, Nancy White; and five brothers, Jimmy Humphreys, Lonnie Humphreys, Clyde Humphreys, Jay Humphreys, and H. L. Humphreys. Survivors include: three daughters, Lisa Broyles and her husband Aaron, Karen Bishop and her husband Jeff, and Marie Scalf and her husband Chris; one son, Russell Humphreys; a sister, Phyllis Haden and her husband George; sixteen grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren and one more due in March of 2019; mother-in-law, Lois Scalf, who cared for him over many years; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff of Signature Healthcare, who looked after Bruce like their own family during his time with them. The family of Bruce Humphreys will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM.
