Carl Edward Bailey

Carl Edward Bailey, 75, 251 Woodlyn Road, passed away, Friday, August 24, 2007 at Lakebridge Health Care. Mr. Bailey was a Washington County native, grew up in Carter County and attended Central Community and Happy Valley School Systems. He was a son of the late Garth and Polly Lee Gouge Bailey. An infant son, Albin Bailey, one granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Hale and her father, David Hale and one brother-in-law, John Huse, also preceded Mr. Bailey in death. Mr. Bailey was a retired Tech Sgt. from the US Air Force after 23 years of service. He had served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Mr. Bailey had been stationed at several Air Force bases including, Keefleck Air Force Base, England, Athens Air Force Base, Greece, Chanute Air Force Base, IL, Wichita Falls Air Force Base, Texas, Lincoln Air Force Base, Nebraska and the Air Force Base in Iceland. He retired from Carter County School Systems after driving a school bus for 24 years. Mr. Bailey was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and was involved in many parish activities. Survivors include his wife, Marie Albin Bailey; five children, Carl L. Bailey and his wife, Debbie, Johnson City, Theresa 'Terri'? Hale, Johnson City, Vivian Brocato and her husband Sam, Cleveland, TN, Bill E. Bailey and his wife, Jeanette 'Sheila'?, Chicago, IL and James 'Jay'? Bailey, Johnson City and his fiancée Nancy Legault, Kingsport; one sister, Barbara 'Bobbie'? Bryant and her husband, John, Wartsburg; two brothers, William 'Bill'? Bailey and his wife, Elizabeth, Spokane, Washington and Roy 'Gene'? Bailey and his wife, Margaret, Elizabethton; grandchildren, Stephen, Matthew and Paul Brocato, Jo Ann Hopson and her husband Jason, Christy Hale, Tamera Sells, Billy, Brandy, and Jesse Bailey; two great grandsons, Tyler Hopson and Jaden Hale; god son, Michael Cunningham, Johnson City; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marie Albin, Norfolk, Neb., Rita Zitek, Omaha, Neb., John and Darlene Albin, Valparaiso, Neb., Leon and Gail Albin, Grosse Isle, Michigan, Missionary Nun, Sister Pauline Albin, Ghana, West Africa, Lorraine and Albert Firley, Weston, Neb., Patsy and Stanley Sabatka, Weston, Neb., Theresa and Don Schneider, Corpus Christi, TX and Lois Huse, Omaha, Neb, an uncle, George Dalton Gouge and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Bailey will be celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at St. Marys Catholic Church. Father Gerard Finucane will be the celebrant. Mr. Bailey s granddaughters, Brandy Bailey and Tamera Sells will serve as alter girls. Military graveside services will follow at 1 PM at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his sons, Carl Lynn Bailey, Bill Edward Bailey, James Jay Bailey and his grandsons, Steve, Matthew and Paul Brocato and Billy and Jesse Bailey and Jason Hopson. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
