Carlyn Epperly

April 11, 1928 — June 18, 2013

Mr. Carlyn Epperly, age 85, of Johnson City, went to be with the Lord, June 18, 2013, at home with his wife at his side after an extended illness. Mr. Epperly was a native of Beckley, West Virginia and had lived in Johnson City since 1960. He was the son of the late B.B. Epperly and Anna Maude Wilson Epperly. In addition to his parents one brother, Fredrick Epperly; one sister, Virginia Cree; one son-in-law, Dwayne Simmons also preceded him in death. Mr. Epperly was a 1946 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Epperly was a retired Brick Mason. He attended the Grace Baptist Church and greatly loved the Lord. Mr. Epperly looked forward to Wednesday afternoon pinochle games at the Johnson City Senior Center and when able played Rook at the Jonesborough Rook Club. He also enjoyed the company of his cat Tabbitha. He loved watching faith-based movies with the family. He will be missed greatly but we are grateful for the eighty-five years the Lord allowed us to have him in our lives and hearts. He now walks with God in the Kingdom of Heaven waiting for our arrival. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Betty Epperly; one son, Jerry Epperly and his wife Suzanne; two daughters, Nancy Netherland and her husband Jerry and Melissa Simmons; three sisters-in-laws, Lucille Quesenberry and her husband Fred, Peggy Hilton and Janice Thurber; four grandchildren, Angela McBride and her husband Michael, Jason Netherland and his wife Kimberly, Jared Epperly and his wife Ashley and Jeffrey Epperly and his wife Megan; six great grandchildren, Amanda Netherland, Maddix Epperly, Kennedi Epperly, Ava Epperly, Hadyn Epperly and Rylie Epperly; two special boys Jackson and Will Wireman who have blessed his life since their births and their parents Jon and Jill. The funeral service for Mr. Carlyn Epperly will be conducted at 8 PM Thursday, June 20, 2013 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Mike Pelham will officiate. Beloved granddaughter Angela Netherland will provide the eulogy. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11:30 AM Friday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors. Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 11 AM Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Baptist Church, 612 Collins Drive, Johnson City TN 37604.
