Carrie D. Sossomon, 91, 710 Hiwassee Hills, Johnson City, died Thursday, January 3, 2008 in the Johnson City Medical Center.A native of North Carolina, she had lived in Johnson City for many years. She was a daughter of the late Claude F. and Clyde V. Dickson. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe B. Sossomon in 1990; a grandson, James L. Gentry, Jr.; two brothers, Carl P. Dickson and Cone F. Dickson; two sisters, Connie D. Houck and Corine D. Winters. Mrs. Sossomon was a graduate of Virginia-Carolina High School. She also attended Appalachian State Teachers College, Boone, North Carolina and graduated from Johnson City Business College. She had been Vice-President of Southern Piping and Erecting Company, which she and her husband had owned.Mrs. Sossomon was a member of Central Baptist Church. She had taught Sunday school for many years and served on various committees. She was a member of the Seekers Sunday school Class and the Joy Choir. For many years she was active in the Johnson City PTA, serving as President of both Local and Council PTA. She had been a Volunteer at the Johnson City Medical Center for many years.Survivors include three children, Mettie J. Johnson of Elizabethton, Dick B. Sossomon of Raleigh, NC, and Jenny Kimbrough of Talbott, Tn., a sister, Clarice Dickson Reid of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren, Lisa M. Light, Mettie L.Davidson, Carrie A. McClain, Branson Sossomon, Robert Sossomon, Ashley R. Brookshire; four great grandchildren, Jessica L. Holly, Nicholas Sossomon, Kaitlyn M. Light, Madison E. Davidson; one great great grandchild Skyler J. Holly; several nieces and nephews; and a special companion her beloved cat 'Miss Anna'?. The funeral service for Carrie D. Sossomon will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 7, 2008 at Central Baptist Church. Dr. Ronald Murray and Rev. R.Willard Warfield will officiate. Graveside committal services will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Michael Dickson, David Dickson, Robert Sossomon, Will Warekois, Branson Sossomon and Derek Moretz will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker Funeral Home on Sunday January 6, 2008 from 2:00 until 5:00 PM.
