Carrie Mildred Shorter, 82, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Greenville Memorial Hospital, in Greenville, South Carolina. Mrs. Shorter was born February 28, 1928 to Stewart Britt and Nellie Gobble Britt in Johnson City, TN. She was married to the late James E. Shorter for 50 years. Mrs. Shorter and her late husband were owners of Shorters Appliance Service in Johnson City for 30 years. Mrs. Shorter was also resident house manager for the Carter County Womens Group Home for 17 years. She was an active member at the Clifton View Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN. She later attended and participated at Riverview Baptist Church in Elizabethton, TN, Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Easley, SC and most recently a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Easley, SC. Mrs. Shorter is survived by her three sons, Rev. Dave Shorter and wife Kathy, Easley, SC, Rev. Larry Shorter and wife Pat, Elizabethton, TN, and Dr. Keith Shorter and wife Lisa, Easley, SC, Mrs. Shorter is also survived by ten grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, one living sister, Barbara Hill, and one living brother, Harry Britt; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. in the South Chapel of the Morris '? Baker Funeral Home, under the direction of her three sons, Rev. David Shorter, Rev. Larry Shorter and Dr. Keith Shorter. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. A committal service will be conducted on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be: Dean Walser, Shelby Holley, Tom Cook, Doug Rasnick, Jason McAllister, Lawrence Fields, Jonathan Shorter, Derek Mussard and Curtis Hyder.
