Catherine Harvey Helsel

Catherine Harvey Helsel, 87, of Johnson City, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at her residence. She was born in Piney Flats, a daughter of the late Frank and Belle Wyatt Harvey. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of many years, retired Navy Captain Rolland Helsel; as well as two brothers, Tom Harvey and John Alfred Harvey. Survivors include: one sister, Ann Thinnes and her husband Thomas; eight nieces and nephews, Terry Harvey, Lisa Macri, Steven Harvey, Teresa Haberman, General Michael Harvey, Monica Strickland, Brenda Mikesell, and John Harvey; and special caregivers, Patricia Wyatt, Judy Clay, Jorita Plowman, Tina Balthis, Patricia Martin, Betty Ford, and Kathy Atwell. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City. The family of Catherine Helsel will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow, officiated by Gerald Malcolm. The committal will follow at 12:00 PM at Shell Cemetery in Piney Flats. Pall bearers will be her brother-in-law, Thomas Thinnes, and nephews, General Michael Harvey, John Harvey, Terry Harvey, and David Mikesell.
