Charlene Elnora “Ellie” Goodson, 92, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019, at Courtyard Senior Living of Johnson City.
Born in Oakdale, TN, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Edith Goldberg.
Ellie graduated from Oakdale High School in 1946 and attended business college in Chattanooga, TN. Later, Ellie moved to Ohio, where she worked as a personnel administrator with Sears. She retired to Johnson City and lived there for her remaining 37 years.
She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and taught Sunday School for many years.
In addition to her parents, Ellie was preceded in death by: her husband, J.W.C. Goodson; and two sisters, Katheryn G. Lawson and Lolita G. Lovelace.
Those left to cherish Ellie’s memory are: one daughter, Cheryl J. Goodson; one son, Stephen J. Goodson and his wife Rhonda; six grandchildren, Lynette M. Wires and Rachele J. Wires, of Brunswick, OH, Kelley G. Harrington and her husband Joe, of Hendersonville, TN, Jay R. Goodson and his wife Holly, of Johnson City, Stephanie G. Rainey and her husband Scott, of Johnson City, and Jennifer S. Ainsworth and her husband Matt, of Kingsport; and 12 great grandchildren.
During her last few years, Ellie was cared for at Colonial Hills Retirement Center and later at Courtyard Senior Living and Avalon Hospice, by very caring and loving staff members; they showed both Ellie and her family a wonderful amount of attentive care, for which her family will always be grateful.
A committal service will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Washington County Memory Gardens with Rev. Gene Elliott officiating. Family and friends are asked to assemble in the mausoleum chapel by 12:20 pm. Pallbearers include: Joe Harrington, Matt Ainsworth, Scott Rainey, Jay Goodson, Ryan Wires-Byrd and Gary Lawson.
