Charles Franklin Bolton, Sr., 79, 1107 King Richard Blvd., Johnson City, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Bolton was a native of Washington County, having been born in the Embreeville community on Halloween day of 1928. With the exception of two years spent in Youngstown, Ohio, as a child and two years in Columbia, SC while serving in the Army during the Korean War, he spent his entire life in Washington Co. He married his soul-mate, the former Irene Hughes of Erwin, TN, on April 17, 1955. They moved to Johnson City in 1958. He was the son of the late Vestal Franklin Bolton and Pauline Tucker Bolton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence V. Bolton, Sr., and a niece, Deborah Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Irene Hughes Bolton, and their children, Charles F. Bolton, Jr. and Paula Bolton Trew. Other survivors include son-in-law Glen Trew, sisters-in-law Mrs. Clarence V. (Blanche) Bolton, Pauline Hughes Ledford, and Mrs. Wade (Hazel) Hughes, and brother-in-law Jeff Hughes and wife Kathleen, seven nieces, six nephews, 22 grand''nieces & nephews, and many cousins. Mr. Bolton was a graduate of Lamar High School and Johnson City Business College, where he studied accounting. He also attended ETSU. He established his accounting practice in 1956, and the time of his retirement in 2002, he was the senior partner of Bolton Coker DeGennaro, Certified Public Accountants. He was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant by the state of Tennessee, and was a member of the Tennessee Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. He was a member of and served on the Board of Directors of the Tri-Cities Estate Planning Council. He was a charter member and past-president of the Nativic Civitan Club of Johnson City. A life-long Methodist, Mr. Bolton was a 45-year member of First United Methodist Church of Johnson City, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and, for many years, as chairman of the Finance Committee. He also served on the Board of Missions and Church Extension of the Johnson City District of the Holston Conference, and had been a Lay Speaker. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 18th at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. In addition, friends and family may call at the home. A celebration of Charles Boltons life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 900 Spring St., on Saturday, January 19th, at TBD. The Bolton family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to Dr. James Blom and staff and to Dr. K. Krishnan and staff, all of the ETSU Cancer Center at Johnson City Medical Center, for their tremendous support and kindness during the past five years. They also wish to thank the staff of Caris Hospice for their invaluable assistance over the past five months.
