Charles Gerald Krouse

November 24, 1927 — May 9, 2020

We are saddened to announce the passing of Charles “Charlie” G. Krouse on May 9th, 2020. Born in 1927 as the 4th child of Paul and Hattie Mae (Hale) Krouse, he lived life to the fullest.

After the loss of his mother as an infant, he and his brother James found a home with his aunt and uncle, Hubert and Bertha (Hale) Sanders and their children. Reaching adulthood, Charles served honorably during WWII while enlisted in the US Army. His future employment was to be with General Motors in Pontiac, Michigan. Retiring after 30 years of service, he returned to his birthplace of Johnson City, TN. After marrying Sylvia (Cox) in his golden years, they volunteered at the Johnson City Senior Center and went dancing regularly. Upon Sylvia’s passing, Charles continued his other loves of music and dance. As a professionally trained dancer in the Fred Astaire Studio, he continued dancing until just weeks before his death.

Charles remained active in the church throughout his life with his last membership at Tacoma Church of God. Later in life he participated in groups such as Musical Voices which regularly visited nursing homes to offer entertainment and Christian testament.

Family members include his brothers and sister, Jack (Wanda) Krouse (deceased), James Krouse (deceased), and Ruth Krouse of Johnson City, nephews Jerry (Judy), Roger (Randi), and Randall (JoeAnn) Krouse. Step-son Ronnie Collins. Ruth (Sanders) Tesneary (known as his “twin sister”), Carolyn Hill, Noah Whitehead, and Cynthia Bruce were cousins, friends and caretakers.

Viewing will be at Morris-Baker funeral home on Friday, May 15, 2020 from 11am-2pm followed by procession to Monte Vista Memorial Park. Social distancing will be observed and wearing a face mask is encouraged. Graveside service will be officiated by Reverend William Pealer. Due to the current virus situation, chapel services will be held at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to St Jude Children’s Hospital or to your local children’s music program.
