Claude Harrison Davis, 84, Johnson City, died Monday, January 19, 2009 at James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Mr. Davis was a Saltville, VA native and had lived in Johnson City since 1951. He was a son of the late Robert Cummings Davis and Dollie Frances Turner Davis. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Ocie Powers Davis in 2002 and eight brothers and sisters. Mr. Davis retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center after 30 plus years of service. He was a WWII US Army veteran serving in the 8th and 9th Armored Divisions and fought in four campaigns, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Davis earned the EAMET Campaign Medal with (3) bronze service stars, the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star Medal. Mr. Davis was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Purple Heart Association. He attended First United Methodist Church, Johnson City. Survivors include two sons, Danny Davis and Ricky Davis both of Johnson City; one sister, Irene Hayden, Marion, VA; one brother, Ernest Davis, Beeville, TX and three grandchildren. A military graveside service for Mr. Davis will be held a 12 noon Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Monte Vista memorial Park. The Kingsport VFW Post #3382 and Reverend Garland Thayer will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11 am until 11:45 am Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Davis requested no floral tributes or memorial donations.
