It is with immense sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of Col. David T. Hottel, Sr. of Piney Flatts, TN on January 30, 2024, at the age of 89.
David was born in Allentown, PA to Grace and Timothy Hottel. As a child, he traveled along the eastern coast with his family, leading worship and praise in churches, revivals, and campground meetings. The Hottel family eventually settled in Spartanburg, SC, where David enlisted in the Army in 1956. He served his country with great pride for over 30 years in the intelligence community. Following his military service, he provided valuable consulting services and led seminars.
David was widely known for his passion for music, as he dedicated many years serving as a Minister of Music while his Army assignments took him across the globe. He devoted over 50 years of his life to The Lord, serving in various roles such as a Pastor, Associate Pastor, Assistant Pastor, Interim Pastor, Minister of Music, and Education/Youth leader. He conducted church growth seminars and workshops, counseled individuals, and led Bible Theology classes as an adjunct professor.
In his educational pursuits, David completed his BA at Furman University in SC and received certificates in music from Converse Conservatory for Music and Westminster Choir College. He also earned diplomas from Army Chaplain School and Andover-Newton Theological Seminary. Additionally, he obtained his MS degree from George Washington University and a Ph.D. from California Coast University.
David is survived by his loving wife of 6 years, Charlotte, his children, Cheryl (David), Teresa (Danny), and David Jr. (Doris), 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by, his late wife Thelma, with whom he shared 60 beautiful years until her passing in 2015.
He will forever be remembered as a caring husband, devoted father, doting grandfather, cherished great-grandfather, and a loyal friend. David took immense pride in being a Soldier for God and his country. His final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
