Coy Argil Phipps, 87, of Johnson City, died Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Johnson County and son of the late John and Amanda Wilkins Phipps. Coy was a veteran of WWII having served in the U. S. Navy on the U. S. S. Halford. He attended Milligan College, was a retired employee of Holston Defense Corporation in Kingsport and was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. Coy was an outdoorsman. He loved hunting and felt most at home in the woods. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his loving wife, E. Gene Hunter Phipps in 1989 and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include: two daughters, Hilde Phipps, of Alcoa, and Teresa Byington and her husband Greg of Brownsburg, IN; son, Doug Phipps, of Mountain City; four grandchildren, Heather Phipps, Stephan Phipps and his wife Jessica, Lacey Lynch and her husband Mike and Matthew Byington and his wife Jordyn; great grandchildren, Aiden Gabriel Phipps, Hailie Krivdo, Mason Jones, and Caleb Jones; several nieces and nephews, and beloved friends and neighbors. A private family memorial service will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Morris - Baker Funeral Home. Darrell Byrd will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 Friday, January 18, 2013 pm at Morris '? Baker Funeral Home.
