On January 26, 2008 Our Heavenly Father needed another musician for his Heavenly Band, so he called upon Dana Fitzgerald Ray, age 36,of Johnson City, Tennessee to play with the angels. Dana had never met a stranger and you would become a friend as quickly as you spoke to him. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City, a graduate of Science Hill High School and a member of the Berea Free Will Baptist Church. Dana was a loving son of Alvin and Geneva Ray of Johnson City. Dana is preceded in death by his Paternal grandparents, Groce and Mary Ann Ray and his Maternal grandparents, W.B. and Martha Collis. Survivors other then his parents include: one son Daniel Alan Carpenter of Lexington, KY; one daughter, Staci Renee Carpenter of Lexington, KY; one sister, Kim and her husband Walter Berry of Johnson City; two brothers, Mark Ray and his wife Peggy, Chad Ray and his wife Kristy all of Johnson City; one niece Autumn Ray of Johnson City; three nephews, P.J. Berry, Jordan Ray, and Joshua Ray, all of Johnson City; one cousin, Duane Duvall of Johnson City; uncles and aunts, Dayton and Frances Bennett of Ohio, Gene and Penny Childers of Florida; many other family members; special friends, Candy Wells, Tammy Arnold, and Paige Evans; all the pallbearers and many other special friends too numerous to possibly name. The funeral service for Dana F. Ray will be conducted on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 7:30 PM in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Mr. Phillip Rogers, Minister will officiate A committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday in the Roselawn Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM Wednesday. Active pallbearers will be Eric Dempsey, Charlie Watson, Craig Williams, Eddie Pickering, Kevin Oler, Ben Reed, P.J. Berry, Roger Arnold and Ernest Easterly. A Honorary pallbearer will be Bodie Campbell. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 6 to 7:30 PM Tuesday, prior to the service. The family would like to extend special thanks to Alice Rogers, Brenda, Ann and Amy, staff of Unicoi Valley Medical Practices, and the staff of the ICU at JCMC who took special care of Dana through his lengthy illness.
