David A. Gunter

January 12, 1971 — September 12, 2018

David was born on January 12, 1971, in Salisbury, NC. His ?Happy Homecoming' this side of heaven has always been celebrated on February 19th ? the day he blessed the lives of his parents, Charles and Suzanne Gunter, and came to live with them in Johnson City, TN. David attended school at University School, Morrison School, and Science Hill High School. He was a member of Central Church of Christ, and thoroughly enjoyed friendships formed with special friends there. He found joy in handing out candy at services to the younger children and was affectionately known as ?Candy Man'. He would also help stock the church pantry and liked calling people to check on them. David treasured time spent with friends. He was easy to please, and did not require lavish activities to be happy. He loved just being able to hang out with them drinking a Dr. Pepper and listening to music (usually 80?s rock or Hank Williams). He delighted in a chance to grab a quick bite, a game of chess, or playing basketball. In more recent years, he liked going to The Victory Center and on outings with The Friendship House. David enjoyed family time, and he especially loved a game of Chinese checkers with his mom or playing cards or going to a ballgame with his dad. He was proud of his nephews and always liked hearing about their sports and getting the chance to ?horse around' with them (while also feeding them candy!). David is survived by: his father, Charles ?Chig' Raymond Gunter; his sister, Ramonda Gunter Scott and her husband Chad; three nephews, Graham, Campbell, and Everett Scott; one aunt, Nina Hausmann; and cousins, Jim Hausmann, Nina Massey, and Emily Hill. He?s experiencing a joyful reunion with his mother, Suzanne Gunter, at his final ?Happy Homecoming'. The family of David Gunter will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM followed by a celebration of David?s life at 4:00 PM on Monday, September 17th at Central Church of Christ, 2722 East Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, with minister Tim Hall officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Agape (4555 Trousdale Drive, Nashville, TN 37204-4513) or Frontier Health Foundation (www.frontierhealthfoundation.org).
