David Carlyle Boggs

January 25, 1924 — March 18, 2011

David Carlyle Boggs, Sr., age 87, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Boggs was born in Anderson, South Carolina, a son of the late Thomas Franklin Boggs and Daisy King Boggs. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II in the Eastern European Theater. During his time of service, he received the following decorations and citations, World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon, Four Bronze Service Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon and Distinguished Unit Badge. He was of the Presbyterian faith. Mr. Boggs was a lifetime member of the Johnson City VFW Post #2108, and a past President of the Johnson City Optimist Club. He coached the Optimist Little League and Babe Ruth Teams for many years, and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pearl Lane Boggs; four children, David C. Boggs, Jr., of Johnson City, TN, James 'Wimpy'? Boggs, of Rockingham, NC, Patricia Boggs, of Atlanta, GA, and Earl Dean Boggs, of Johnson City, TN; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 21, 2011, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Dr. C. Dwayne Baird officiating and military honors to be rendered by the Boone Dam VFW Post #4933 and members of the Tennessee Army National Guard. Pallbearers will be family and friends. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home Monday morning at 10:40 am for all those planning on attending the graveside service.
