Mr. David Edward Hampton, age 76, of 504 Dennis Drive, Johnson City, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011 in the NHC Healthcare. Mr. Hampton was a native of Louisville, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Joseph Eugene Hampton and Anna Mae Irving Hampton. In addition to his parents four brothers also preceded him in death. Mr. Hampton was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served as minister of music for 24 years before retiring in 1996. Mr. Hampton graduated from Louisville Baptist Theological Seminary in January 1961. He served in churches in Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Survivors include: his wife of fifty-three years, Mary Clayton Hampton of the home; one daughter, Melodee and her husband Walker Holland of Jonesborough; one son, D. Douglas Hampton and his wife Karen of Jonesborough; one brother, Norman Hampton and his wife Carol of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Edith Helen Whalen of Louisville, Kentucky and Rose Lee Young of Louisville, Kentucky; three grandchildren, David Holland and his wife Angel of Chicago, Hannah Hampton and Caleb Hampton both of Jonesborough. Several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. David Edward Hampton will be conducted Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 8:00 PM in the Central Baptist Church. Dr. Ron Murray and Rev. R. Willard Warfield will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday prior to the service. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Friday in the Roselawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Ministers, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 9:15 AM Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimers Association, 207 N. Boone Street, Johnson City, Tn. 37604.
