David Francis

David Lee Francis, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on August 16, 2024, at the age of 97. He was born in 1927 in Washington County TN to the late Crockett and Amanda Lowe Francis. David was a World War 2 Navy Veteran as a Communication Radioman, 3rd class on cruiser and gunner on a destroyer. He was employed at Harris-Tarkett for 50 years where he retired in July 2006. David said he was saved at a tent revival in Jonesborough 1952. He was 23 and had just gotten out of the Navy. He was baptized at 1st Baptist Church, Jonesborough. He was a member of Unaka Ave. Baptist Church for over 60 years, where he served as a Deacon.

David was preceded in death by parents Crockett Francis, Minnie Lowe; one brother, James Bert Francis; Three sisters, Inez Francis Curtis, Ann Francis Donald, and Ida Evelyn Francis Miller.

Survivors include his wife Juella Hampton Francis; daughter Delena Renee Francis; son, James David Francis (Kimberly); two grand daughters Greenlee, and Brynlee.

David was a past president of Square Dancer Club of East TN. Square dancing was a huge part of his life, where he meet the love of his life of 61 years. David grew up a farmer that sold his produce to local stores and families, and later in his life donated produce to people in the community. He loved nature, water skiing, reading, and spending time with family.

The funeral services to honor David's remarkable life will be Monday August 19, 2024, from 5-6 PM at Unaka Ave Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 6 PM. The graveside service will be Tuesday August 20, 2024 at 1 PM at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating his life and legacy as we gather to pay our respects to a true American hero.

David's unwavering commitment to his family, country, and work will forever be cherished and remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love and gratitude of those he leaves behind.
