David Edison Howard

David Edison Howard, 77, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on May 18, 1946, to the late William Joseph Howard and Betty Stitts Howard in Cincinnati, Ohio. They moved to Rockwood, Tennessee during David’s junior year of high school. After high school, David joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country in Okinawa and Korea during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, David married Judy Treadway and together they happily shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. In 1977, he graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. David was a member of Central Baptist Church in Bearden during his years there.

After moving from Knoxville, David and Judy made their home in Johnson City, Tennessee, where they resided for 45 years. While there, David worked as the CFO for the Johnson City Power Board, where he retired after 30 years.

Over the years, David participated in many organizations and had fond memories of his time serving in the Johnson City Lions Club and on the Tennessee Baptist Relief Team.

David was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City, from the years 1981 - 2019, where he served as a deacon and treasurer on the board of directors, before attending Sam Jones Methodist Church in Cartersville, since 2019. He was recognized by Milligan College as a leader in Christian service. He loved the Lord with his whole heart and music was a part of his passion for serving the Lord. David sang in church choirs for more than 60 years.

David was the most committed husband, father, and grandfather. He put faith and family above all else. He was a trusted friend, lover of dad jokes, a music enthusiast, and the family’s master chef. He will be missed by his friends, family, and church, but we are comforted in knowing he is healed and whole in the arms of Jesus.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include: the love of his life, Judy Howard; two daughters, Beth Glass (Adam) and Megan Maynard (James); one sister, Kathy Sanderson; two brothers, Steve Howard (Teresa) and John Howard (Belita); two grandchildren, Addy Glass and Finley Maynard, to whom he was affectionately known as “Pop-Pop”; along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Central Baptist Church in Johnson City. A celebration of David’s life will be held at 1:30 PM following the visitation.

A committal service is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery no later than 9:50 AM.
