David Sorrell, 84, of Johnson City passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Sorrell was a native of Unicoi County, Tennessee had lived in Bridgeport, Connecticut from 1948 to 1988 then returned to Johnson City to make his home. He was a son of the late Joseph C. and Mary Etta Jarrett Sorrell. Mr. Sorrell was a Army veteran of WW II. He had served in action in Rhineland, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, and Ardennes with the 2nd Armored Division 'Hell on Wheels'?. He was awarded six Bronze Star Metals, the American Defense Service Metal, and the Good Conduct Ribbon. Mr. Sorrell was a member and Veteran of Underage Military Service. He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Bridgeport , Connecticut Lodge # 289 and the Johnson City Lodge # 1831. He had served in local, state, and national level offices in the Moose. Mr. Sorrell was a recipient of the Pilgrims Degree (the highest honor in the Loyal Order of the Moose). Mr. Sorrell was a retired insurance adjuster with the Travelers Insurance Co. He was a member of the Berea Free Will Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife ,Erma Mollo Sorrell in 1997; by four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include: one son, Robert D. and his wife Jane Sorrell of Johnson City; two sisters, Ruth and her husband Calvin Ward of Johnson City, and Rosalee Gibson of Clinton, TN; two grandchildren, William and his wife Bernice Sorrell of Johnson City and Kimberly and her husband Eric Walker of Johnson City; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive . The funeral service for David Sorrell will be conducted at 8 PM Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Rev. Jerry Stout will officiate. The committal service will be conducted at 1 PM Thursday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with everyone meeting at the cemetery at 12:55 PM Thursday. Full Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by the V.F.W Post of Bristol along with members of the Tennessee National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Loyal Order of the Moose. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker North Chapel from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday prior to the service.
