Dayton 'Slim'? Thomason, 85, of 103 Pete Slagle Road, Watauga, died Monday, November 19, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Thomason was born on September 1, 1922 in Johnson City and had lived most of his life in Watauga. He was a son of the late Frank and Bertha Smith Thomason of Johnson City. Dayton was an Army veteran of World War II, having served two years in Europe. He retired from Hodge Machine and worked as an independent welder until his passing. He was a member of the South Side Christian Church in Elizabethton. Mr. Thomason is preceded in death by: his parents; his first wife, Bessie Arrowood Thomason in 1985;three sons, Dayton Ray, Michael Wayne, and Terry Lynn Thomason, Sr. all of Johnson City; two brothers, Lewis Thomason of Johnson City, and Ed Thomason of Newport News, VA; two sisters, Ruth Gray of Gray and Betty Ellis of Elizabethton. Survivors include: his wife, Hattie Lee Thomason of Elizabethton; two sons, Jack Thomason of Cadiz,KY and William 'Gene'? Thomason of Watauga; one daughter, Janie Cross of Bristol, TN; two brothers, David Thomason of SC and Troy Thomason of Elizabethton; two sisters, Ola Nell Harris of Jonesborough, and Alma South of Johnson Ciy; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Dayton 'Slim'? Thomason will be conducted at 3 PM Wednesday, November 21, 2007 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Pastor Mike Bishop will officiate. Interment will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by the VFW Post 3382 of Kingsport and the Tennessee National Guard. Active pallbearers will be Sonny Slagle, William Arnold, Doug Fair, Dwight Rasnick, John Southern and Bobby Pate. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 1 to 3 PM Wednesday prior to the service. Friends may also visit at the residence, 103 Pete Slagle Road, Watauga at anytime.
