Della Mae Taylor

Della Mae Brewer Taylor, 81, of Johnson City, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Johnson City, a daughter of the late Lee Roy and Hona LuLu Holley Brewer. Della Mae was a member of the Rock Creek Presbyterian Church in Erwin, TN. She was a retired RN, 1953 graduate of the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. A former nursing instructor, parish nurse, polio head nurse, U. S. Army nurse, former Mt. Home Veterans Affairs Medical Center nurse and private duty nurse. She was a democrat activist, had won numerous national cooking awards, wrote recipes for Southern Living Magazine and was the first woman President of the Jonesborough Kiwanis Club. Della Mae was in Whos Who of American Women for 1984 and 85 and on the Tennessee Board of Professional Counselors and Marital Therapists. In her life she was dedicated to her family and mentored many young people and lived a loving and loyal life. In addition to her parents, her husband, John R. Taylor, and sister, Ruth Anne Patterson preceded her in death. Survivors include: two daughters, Aliesha Bene Taylor-Meade of Jonesborough and Celeste 'Cissy'? Taylor Eversole and her husband Mark of Gray; a brother, Charles Brewer of Asheville, NC; a granddaughter, Celeste Meade of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 5:00 pm under the direction of John Robinson and Jim Dik. Special music will be provided by Renee Garland, Jim Dik, Anita Meade and Dr. Terry Miller. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until time of service at 5:00 pm. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to: The Manna House, 116 W. Walnut Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37604.
