Dennis Ernest Hammer, 71, of Johnson City, died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Johnson City, son of the late Samuel E. and Sarah Austin Hammer. Mr. Hammer was a retired Assistant Manager at the Roan Street Dairy Queen. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Rollin, Bill and Dwight; a sister, Wanda Calbough and an infant sister. Survivors include: his wife, Thelma Harmon Hammer of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael E. and Melissa Hammer of Corbin, KY, Gregory K. and Diane Hammer of Nashville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra L. and Mark Hopkins of Lincolnton County, NC, Lisa M. and Brian Ferrell of Johnson City; two brothers, Charles Hammer of Michigan, Samuel Earl Hammer and his wife Barbara of Johnson City; seven grandchildren; Renee, Scott, Chelsea and Emily Hopkins, Luke and Caleb Ferrell and Gregory Hammer, Jr.; several nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. in the North Chapel of the Morris '? Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Evangelist Toonie Cash. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at 8:00 p.m. A committal service will be conducted on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Michael Hammer, Earl Hammer, Brian Ferrell, Mark Hopkins, Chris Carter and Bill Hammer.
