Dewey Byrd Crum

July 8, 1932 — March 28, 2015

Dewey Byrd Crum, 82, of Kingsport, joined his heavenly family Saturday, March 28, 2015 in the Indian Path Medical Center. Dewey was born in Johnson City and lived there several years before moving to Kingsport, where he lived for over 40 years. He was the son of the late Jesse L. and Carrie Harrison Crum. He was a graduate of Science Hill High School and Northeast State Technical Schools first data processing program. He served in the US Air Force for four years and had worked for the Johnson City Press Chronicle. Later, he was a computer systems analyst for Mason Dixon and also ETSU before his retirement. Dewey enjoyed restoring classic cars and was a member of the Daniel Boone Antique Automobile Club of America and the Model A Ford Club of America. He was a longtime member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, his sister, Mary Ruth Crum Blalock, preceded him in death in 2010. He is survived by: his wife of 40 years and love of his life, Gladell Roller Crum; two children, Al (Gina) Qualls and Sandy (Terry) Hartman; two granddaughters, Angela (Alex) Menchaca and Kelly (Jefferson) Fairchild; five great grandchildren; several cousins; and many good friends. Deweys graveside committal service will be conducted at 2:30 pm Tuesday, March 31, 2015 in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker Funeral Home at 2 pm Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery for those services.
