Dewey Lee Turner, 81, Kingsport, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Erwin Health Care.
Dewey was born in Dickenson County, VA, to the late Alonzo Rambo and Lona Turner Freeman.
Dewey was a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed reading, cooking, and building; he was a great carpenter.
In addition to his parents, Dewey was preceded in death by: four brothers, Roger Freeman, Harlan Freeman, Loyal Freeman and Dale Freeman; and one sister, Glenda Hooker.
Survivors include: his wife of 16 years, Rosa Turner, of Kingsport; three children, Lora Turner, of Mt. Caramel, Teresa Jarvis, of Big Stone Gap, VA, and Michael Hayes, of Roanoke, VA; one step-son, Israel Ortega and his wife Paloma, of Durango, Mexico; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Freeman, of Minassas Park, VA, and Jerry Freeman and his wife Doris, of Dekalb, IL; two sisters, Betty Lovette, of Piney Flats, and Rebecca Meullion, of Piney Flats; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Erwin Health Care and Amedysis Hospice for the care given to Dewey, especially Dewey’s favorite nurses, Kim and Venie.
A committal service will be held at 1 PM Friday, June 21, 2019, at Temple Hill Memorial Park, in Castlewood, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
